I've had this happen too. Backpack just vanishes from my character randomly after restarts I've most about 6 megas so far. This has happened to me even when not in a ghillie had one of the level 4 hero clothes packs on.

About the furnace... Read the first book and tried to melt like 4 times. Failed everytime? Any thoughts? Pretty much everything is random number based so stuff like this can happen. I've had the same thing happen with engine parts studied, 8 engine screws and I only succeeded on studying one of them.

In regards to the book that allows you to smelt ferrous metals, how do we smelt the reinforcing material? I have enough material I just have no idea how to smelt the metal since a fireplace can't smelt and the F1 help guide does not give you the location of a place to smelt the metals.
