Some servers give humanity for bot kills. Ask your admin if he has it set that way. And the easiest way to get hero lvls is killing zombies. I believe its every 15 kills you get humanity.

Just build in a place that has natural cover around and not too far from resources. Make sure your door is facing a direction that would be hard to be shot from.
