So it seems that the expansions tab has been removed, how can i go about accessing it as i wanna try some other stuff out?

Try to temove the @DayzOrigins folder somewhere outside the Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead folder for the time you want to try something else. That's how it works for me, and it's actually not that hard.
